There are some photoshoots that I wish could go on forever. This was definitely one of those!
If you’ve ever worked with me, there is a good chance that you’ve either met, or worked with my sister Mariah. Out of us 5 kids, she is the middle child – with beautiful blonde curly hair and big brown eyes. Growing up, we relentlessly teased her by singing “They call the wind Mariah”… she still hates that song, and we still tease her about it.
Mariah hadn’t had any photos done of herself in a very long time, and I really wanted to do some conceptual images with a “prop” that is very important to me…. our Momma’s violin. We grew up with music in our home daily – Momma plays piano and violin “by ear”. The violin has always been my favorite instrument – I just love the violin shots we got at this session. She probably got aggravated with me after hearing “hold it like this” a thousand times lol. (I didn’t stick with my violin lessons as a girl, but I still remembered some of the basics. Unfortunately for Riah).
My little sister is an artist in her own right and always has my back at weddings and sessions. Mariah has been “the wind” beneath my wings so many times – and I appreciate her so much!

Love the hazy effect here… some of it was there already, but it’s amazing what a little breathing on the lens filter will do to create that cloudy look!

The above is my absolute favorite shot… maybe of the whole year! L.O.V.E.

I wasn’t 100% familiar with my manual settings last spring when this session was shot, but I knew that to get the soft water effect I would need to slow down my shutter speed. I simply put my camera into TV mode (shutter priority) and played with the settings until I got it to look the way that I wanted it to. I noted the settings and then switched it to manual mode until I got comfortable using this specific setting. There is no teacher like trial and error!

Beautiful Rye-Rye, thank you for all of your hard work and for being such a joy to be around! You make my heart smile :)
